Fixing wobbly tables
A table that wobbles can be a real inconvenience for customers. They’re usually caused by one of three things:
- The table top isn’t fixed properly to the base. This is probably the easiest type of table wobble to sort out – all you need to do is tighten up the screws if they’ve become loose.
- The base is not stable. There’s not much you can do if the base isn’t stable, apart from checking that the base has been properly assembled following the manufacturer’s instructions. Or look in to buying better quality bases.
- Your establishment’s floor is uneven. This is a very common issue, often dealt with by wedging a bar mat or a slither of cork under the table leg. The trouble is though, that using bits of bar mat hardly looks professional and using cork only works until the table is moved, or knocked.
The best solution is to specify table bases that come with built in, adjustable feet.
These look professional, and can be adjusted by simply very carefully ‘unwinding/unscrewing’ the feet until they compensate for your uneven floor.
It may be that only one table leg needs adjusting, so try and see if this is the case before you start unscrewing them all – this a job that requires patience
